Recollect: Cars

As part of the Powerhouse Museum’s Recollect series, I also designed Recollect: Cars, which brought the Museum’s remarkable automobile collection out of storage and into public view. My approach was to highlight the cultural and technological significance of these vehicles, not just as machines, but as icons of innovation, design, and social change. The exhibition design balanced the dramatic physical presence of the cars with interpretive elements that revealed their stories, from engineering breakthroughs to their role in shaping Australian life. By carefully orchestrating spatial layout, circulation, and visual framing, I created an environment that allowed visitors to appreciate both the aesthetic beauty of individual vehicles and the broader narrative of mobility, progress, and identity.
