Recollect: Health & Medicine
MAAS, Powerhouse Museum
Sydney, Australia
For the Powerhouse Museum's Health and Medicine exhibition, my role was to shape how the Museum’s extensive collection could be presented as more than static display. The challenge was to reveal the stories embedded within these objects, ranging from surgical instruments to early diagnostic equipment, and to frame them within the broader cultural and social context of health. My approach was to create a clear, intuitive spatial and graphic system that balanced the density of the collection with moments of clarity and focus, allowing visitors to both survey the breadth of the holdings and connect with individual objects on a more intimate level.
I oversaw the full process from curatorial collaboration and concept design through to detailing, documentation, and delivery, ensuring that the exhibition was not only functional as a visible storage gallery but also compelling as a visitor experience. By combining curatorial content with strong spatial and graphic design, the exhibition transformed the stored collection into a vivid, accessible narrative about the history of health and medicine.
