Darling Park Experience

Project type

Exhibition, Sales Suite

Location

Level 22, Tower 2, Darling Park, Sydney

Date

May 2023

This multisensory entry experience introduces the story of Darling Park’s harbourside precinct, an architectural vision for a future-focused workplace designed by Henning Larsen in collaboration with Architectus. Positioned within an iconic Sydney harbourside location, the space serves as both arrival and expression: a physical manifestation of the design quality, innovation and environmental ambition that define the precinct and its Lighthouse tower. The translucent, light-filled threshold reflects the project’s commitment to generous amenity and expansive green space, anchored by the overarching placemaking concept of Human Nature.

The experience draws inspiration from the landscape strategy developed by McGregor Coxall, which references the Indigenous Noongar Six Seasons: Birak, Bunuru, Djeran, Makuru, Djilba and Kambarang, developed in collaboration with Indigenous consultants. As Creative Director of environments at Frost*collective, I translated this framework into an immersive spatial narrative that uses seasonal rhythms and natural cues to shape the visitor journey. The intent is immediate and intuitive: to create a sense of calm, connection and recognition upon arrival, while embedding a deeper layer of cultural and environmental meaning.

A carefully choreographed interplay of sound, colour, light and movement brings this narrative to life. Subtle gradients, drawn from both the Darling Park brand identity (also designed by Frost*collective) and the tonal qualities of each season, shift as visitors move through the space. From the cooler hues of winter through to the warmth of summer and autumn, these transitions are paired with responsive soundscapes, where the ambient presence of deep harbour waters and coastal ecologies evokes the site’s unique context. Together, these elements create a transportive environment that enhances mood, reinforces place and leaves a lasting sensory impression.
