MLC | 25 Martin Place | Placemaking & Interpretation

25 Martin Place

Sydney, Australia

As Creative Director of Environments at Frost*collective, I led the design and delivery of the placemaking and interpretive strategy for 25 Martin Place. The strategy focused on revealing and reinforcing the identity of the place through carefully integrated interpretive elements. This included articulating the history, design intent and cultural significance of the site in ways that feel embedded rather than applied, ensuring that storytelling is experienced intuitively through movement, materiality and spatial sequencing, rather than through overt signage alone.

A key contribution was the reimagining of the existing plaza skylight as a glass-bottomed pond. This intervention transformed a purely functional element into a memorable placemaking moment, introducing light, reflection and a sense of calm into the urban environment. More than a visual gesture, it creates a layered spatial experience, strengthening the relationship between the public realm above and the retail environment below.

The result is a placemaking approach that elevates the everyday experience of the site, creating moments of pause, discovery and connection, while embedding a deeper understanding of place within the fabric of the precinct.
